As a hobby runner who is preparing for a half marathon, I can use some extra protein in my smoothies. Instead of pricey vegan protein powder, I've been using aqua faba and chickpeas.
GREEN FUEL SMOOTHIE
Ingredients:
1 cup baby spinach
1 big or two small kiwis
5 slices of cucumber
¼ cup cooked chickpeas
1 cup filtered water
Optional: 3-4 dates or other natural sweetener
Pour water into your blender, followed by the chopped other ingredients. Blend for 1-2 minutes at low speed, followed by another 1-2 minutes on medium and finally high speed.
PINK POWER SMOOTHIE
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1 apple
4 baby carrots
¼ heaped cup melon (I used Galia)
1 ripe nectarine
2 tablespoons chickpea brine (from a can or from homecooked beans)
¾ cup filtered water
Optional: a few dashes of cinnamon
Pour water and chickpea brine into your blender, followed by the chopped other ingredients. Add a few dashes of cinnamon if desired. Blend for 3-4 minutes at low speed, followed by another 1-2 minutes on medium and finally high speed.
